Lubricant to use on your garage door

While WD-40 is great at decreasing metal parts.  It’s lubrication properties are not recommended for your garage door.

It it is best to use a silicone spray or white lithium grease as it will last longer and won’t freeze in the Milwaukee winters.   It’s a good idea to lubricate all your hinges, springs, rollers, bearings and pivot points for proper lubrication.  Once a year should be enough.

Springs

Spray down the garage torsion springs that lift your garage door day in and day out. Again, you want to only lubricate them enough that they move better, without a lot of extra lubricant dripping out.

Hinges

Lubricate steel hinges (not Plastic ones) at their pivot points.

Rollers

If your rollers have nylon wheels that make contact with the track, Only lubricate the bearings.

Locks

It’s also a good time to give your locks a shot of lubricant, make sure you get the tumblr.

Tracks

Clean the tracks with a rag to remove any build-up that might be interfering with your door’s glide. You don’t need to lubricate the tracks, just make sure they are clean.
