Any machine that runs in the Milwaukee and Illinois area encounters major temperature changes. Your garage door is part of a machine that has the job of being dependable in the worst of conditions.
Winter weather is coming soon, a few simple maintenance ideas for you to help avoid any issues when the temps and snow are falling.
Cold temperatures cause metal to contract and will ad strain to all of the working parts of your garage door. Your garage door may also stick to the track which can harm the motor for the garage door opener. Its a good idea to apply the proper lubricant to the hinges, roller, springs and bushings to avoid these problems.
Batteries
A simple task that can save you from headaches later. Batteries can fail more often in cold weather, especially older batteries. It also seems that batteries can fail at the time when you want them to work the most, I’m sure it has happened to you when you think “Of all times for my batteries to die, they have to die now.” Having fresh batteries in the winter will help with this.
Lubricate the weather seal with a silicone lubricant, don’t use a lubricant with petroleum products in it as the petroleum attacks rubber.
Cables
Inspect all of the cables for visual wear and tear. If you notice anything, don’t attempt to replace them. Contact a garage door repair professional as this can be a very dangerous job.
