Don’t replace your garage door spring yourself

If you notice a noise or squeaky spring, try using a liberal amount of silicone lubricant, make sure you use a spray on lubricant as you don’t want to touch the springs while applying the lubricant as springs on garage doors are wound very tightly in order to allow the garage door to lift.  If a spring were to break or unwind while you are close there is a chance for very serious injury.  Keep in mind, your garage door can weigh over 400 pounds, that is a lot of tension that the springs have in order to lift your garage door.   If the spring isn’t broken and it continues to make noise, it is a good idea to have a garage door repair company stop by and check it out.  There could be an problem and a professional can do the proper adjustments needed to correct the issue before any damage is done.  Proper maintenance of your garage door can save you on costly repairs and inconvenience.
