Garage doors seem to be pretty simple, they go up, they go down. Over and over. Till suddenly they don’t work. Here are some simple tips on what to do if your garage door goes on the fritz.
More then likely, when your garage door is acting up, its time for a little maintenance. Check out the rollers and tracks. Most people never clean them. Give them a good cleaning and add a little lubricant (not WD-40) instead use a silicon based lubricant. Check out your rollers and hinges, do they look stuck? If so find an old brush or steel wool and clean off the rust. after it is clean apply some lubricant.
Check out the weatherstripping around the doors. Sometimes it can be getting jammed causing the door to not function properly.
Don’t forget to apply some lubricant to your garage door chain or drive screw.
Lubricate the pulleys, hinges and latches, a little on the torsion spring helps too if it is rusty.
If you notice, most of your maintenance consists of lubrication, Spring is a great time to do this as you can schedule it along with your spring cleaning. With the amount of use your garage door goes through, it is very common for wear and tear and the elements to cause the need for additional lubrication.
As always, any additional repairs should be left to a professional Garage Door Repair company as it can be very dangerous to do any repairs on garage doors without the proper training. Feel free to contact us!
